Their problem: The BC Association for Crane Safety (BCACS) was established in November 2005 to promote the development of an industry-driven crane operator qualification system in British Columbia. In the course of registering crane operators in BC, the BCACS had collected over 15,000 registration records in its on-line data base. To better serve its clients, they needed to create simple and elegant ways to analyse this volume of data to seek patterns, concentrations and trends.

Our solution: Using PHP with the Codeigniter MVC framework, we created for them a custom dynamic query function that allowed users access to relevant data quickly and easily. This application involved the development of a user friendly interface, so non-technical personnel ( HR managers, etc) would be able to easily access and manipulate the data. Users can quickly generate simple ad hoc reports by selecting pre-defined parameters from drop down menus. These reports can be viewed in tabular and/or graphical format and, also, downloaded as PDF graphs or as pure data in Excel or CSV format.
